Celebrating "Brown Rice" with Chappy Hour & Matthew Wilkas

Acoustic concert and speaker panel of prominent queer music journalists beginning with a happy hour sponsored by the great new dating app Chappy and ending in a dance party. The event will feature a screening of Natti Vogel's controversial music video for "Brown Rice," followed by a panel discussion with Matt Wilkas (boyfriend of Olympian Gus Kenworthy and actor who stars in the video) and an exclusive, intimate solo performance by Natti. In attendance will be the boldest and brightest thinkers and creators from the LGBT+ community and beyond.

This June we want to host an extremely exclusive acoustic concert and queer speaker panel at the Vinyl Room of Soho House for NYC Pride. The event will feature a screening of Natti Vogel's controversial music video for "Brown Rice," followed by a panel discussion with Matt Wilkas (boyfriend of Olympian Gus Kenworthy and actor who stars in the video), Naveen Kumar (writer for VICE, Pitchfork, and Them.) and Patrick Crowley (editor of Billboard). In attendance will be a curated guest list of 25 VIP artists, thinkers and creators from the LGBT+ community, and gay dating app Chappy is onboard to sponsor $2000 worth of drink tickets.

We're looking at a 2-hour event, 30 minutes for guests to arrive and mingle, 30 minutes for a concert from art pop mastermind Natti Vogel, and an hour block for the screening and panel discussion.

"Brown Rice" highlights the desperation and alienation queer people face due to the trauma heteronormative society has caused us, but through the lens of one specific individual. He's handsome, fit, Instagram famous and a name in the local gay scene, and yet he's completely empty inside- trading his body for money and drugs to cope with his depression. Many queer men may feel an innate connection with the main character, or they may feel it furthers a dangerous stereotype about our community. Regardless, everyone will have an opinion.
