Natti Vogel plays OBERON w/ JAGGERY ~ Sunday 11/3 @8pm

With every successive year, my admiration for Mali Sastri’s utterly unique music GROWS. Do you know how rare that is?

Check it:

What if I were tell you that Mali’s band Jaggery is playing the fanciest music club in Cambridge this Sunday? You’d go, right? Right.
What if I told you I was coming up from New York  to play as well, with a fine-ass string quartet to back me, nonetheless? What if I also told you that this twink prodigy was going to do a little set, too?
What if I were to give you a discounted ticket usually reserved for only close family?
You’d come from, like, Montreal, right?
ONE. NIGHT. ONLY. I’ll be singing rarities ne’er to be repeated again.

FRIDAY FEBRUARY 1st @ SPECTRUM, 8pm, 121 Ludlow Street

At 25, my early cabaret days just keep coming back to haunt me.

Valerie Kuehne, wild curator/cellist/composer, has given me the distinct honor of hosting this month’s SuperCoda Variety Show at the gorgeous semi-private venue Spectrum, home of a 7-foot Steinway Grand and first-rate audio pornography. Most of my shows in the coming year will — without giving too much away – not be solo, so this will be a rare treat for us both.

Arrive promptly at 8pm with whatever cash you wish to spend on music and booze, a *classy* guest, a rambunctious attitude and the knowledge that I may at any time anthropomorphize honey containers, recount horrifying experiences in Tokyo Love Hotels, take your requests and debut an inappropriately poppy new song.

SPECTRUM is: the 2nd Floor of 121 Ludlow Street, LES, Manhattan.

… in the middle of January?

So much has happened in the past 1.5 years since we’ve been in touch that it is unforgivably obscene!

I don’t know how we could catch up on it all in such a brief post BUT. I. WILL. TRY:

There’ve been wine-bottle pianos, sexy and strange honey-baptisms with bridge-jumping aerialists, a music video premiere on the Faster Times, festival shows with my beloved band and string quartet, a Japan tour, a birthday tribute concert, a 2-page spread in a Danish magazine, an album release, and that’s just all my labile musician brain can recall at this time.

Natti Vogel & Najva Sol by Rijard Bergeron

I’ve sworn in vegetarian blood that I will keep you better abreast of everything in 2013, so let me start by proving it to you now:

VALERIE KUEHNE - a *genius* (not a term I use lightly) cellist whom I’ve had the pleasure of working closely with for 5 YEARS, and whose exquisitely written essay on my songs gave this website its catchphrase, has asked me to join the circus tonight for an intimate show at Panoply in Brooklyn. I know it’s terribly last minute, but this is a rare opportunity for interdisciplinary magic in which I suggest you partake. I will debut an outrageously chaotic and ferocious new song laden with a desensitizing quantity of unresolved tritones in the melody. Warning: trigger for anyone with feelings.

SHOW TONIGHT Wednesday January 16th 8pm, Panoply Lab, 204 Meserole St., Brooklyn

It feels very, very good to blog all over this blog again.

So many more exciting announcements coming soon.

Love to you all.

5/20 10pm ~ Natti Vogel live feat. String Quartet, Sapphic Tango, Cocktails & Couture @ Judson Memorial Church

~ Tuesday, May 17th, 10:59 pm ~

Last Friday’s world premiere at Judson went more smoothly than I think any of us could have imagined. Magic abounded in fine form, from our virtuosic string quartet playing Rafaël Leloup’s freshly -penned arrangements to the decadent candle display to Samantha Sleeper’s dreamy couture to the well-stocked bar to the 100-or-so pulchritudinous & delighted audience members. There was a palpable atmosphere of joy, which ~for someone who’s worked hard throwing an event~ somehow never fails to surprise.

Jonny Goodman, the wonderful Jewfro-rocking man who booked us, said that it was among “the most purely perfect nights of music/performance” he had ever seen at Judson, which – if you know anything about this historical church – is complimentary to the point of absurdity.

I should have blogged before the premiere went down, but I suppose I was plenty occupied with simply prepping in the “real world.” Now that this is an objective Success, I feel more than ready to share it with you, and to wholeheartedly encourage you to come NEXT Friday, when we will be graced by the piquant addition of Seanna Sharpe’s Sapphic tango choreography.

I printed a quote from a must-read article by my former professor in the cream-based, full-color programs, which we handed out -alongside fresh daffodils – to audience members upon arrival, in hopes of setting the tone just right. I reiterated during the show how much I meant my desire for such an interaction in earnest, and afterward many people came to confess how much they wanted me to repeat certain songs, or certain parts of songs, etc. but felt too timid to do so. These same people are all coming next week, and will – I gleefully expect – grow more emboldened.

This all feels like a fantastical pre-summer night’s dream, and I can only hope that every one of you gets the chance to enjoy it before it fades away.

Or at the very least, enjoy this pretty 90-second teaser Raf & I made just for these two special nights. See you on the other side. xNV

Natti Vogel headlining the Smith College Alliance for Alternative Rock Festival in 2007, feat. Amanda Palmer, Le Tigre, Cory Chisel & other brilliant acts

After a spectacularly unreal summer touring solo all over China and spreading my wings in Beijing – which I vow I to dish all about in wrap-up blog ASAP – and relishing the process of recording for the first time in <em>ages</em>, I am pleased to announce that I will be playing my first show with two of my favorite performers and people in the world,
